Why Nu Wa is Seeing A Lot of Competitive Play

So if you have been watching the Smite Minor League (broadcast exclusively by Mixer), then you might have noticed a couple things, that Cerberus is very popular in solo lane, and that Nu Wa is consistently getting picked up. We have all heard that Nu Wa is pretty garbo. She suffers from a lack of mobility, her damage doesn’t come online until extremely late game, and that her early clear is almost unmatched in shit, by other mids. Granted, this is the SML, not SPL, it is very possible that we will be seeing completely different god choices.

The secret behind this craze for Nu Wa isn’t actually much of a secret. One item that has gained everyone’s attention, is giving this goddess extra damage equal to 40% of her Magical power on each and every enemy hit by her ult. Soul Reaver, but clearly better, Soul Gem has become a staple on many burst heavy mids.

Scylla, Sol, and Nu Wa are some popular contenders. Nu Wa and her ult benefits the most from this, and has made her early game not as bad as it used to be. So long as you build this item relatively early, you also are cranking out tons of damage on your Clay Soldiers + Shining Metal and will stay safe. Nu Wa had been getting tiny buffs here and there in Smite’s recent history. The targeting on Clay Soldiers and movement speed buff on Mysterious Fog, has allowed her, as a character to really rise above from the trash tier that she had previously been in. For a while we might have to suffer from a Nu Wa craze, but there are some expectations for Soul Gem to be nerfed (and hopefully not Nu Wa herself).
